Question about Expeditions transmissions vs real life trucks

Since playing Expeditions, I got into 4x4 culture on YouTube and learned a lot. But I noticed some things regarding how Expeditions trucks work and real life 4x4 trucks work. Several things don't line up and I was hoping redditors can clarify.

  1. Is 4x4 with an unlocked differential really AWD? I believe it is, but no one calls it that. Marketing still would call it 4wd.

  2. Some Expeditions trucks have a permanently locked differential. Is this possible in real life? I thought differentials need to be open for cars to steer.

  3. In the game, some trucks, low gearing is a sliding scale. You can make higher (+) or lower (-) microadjustments for low gearing. But in real life, it seems there's only one "low"

  4. In the game, you can only do Low and/or lock differential when moving forward. In real life, can you go backwards in low and/or locked differential? .
