Waxing and sanitation
The average temperature for a wax pot used in hair removal is typically between 130°F and 150°F, depending on the type of wax and its application. This temperature is ideal for effective waxing while avoiding burns or skin irritation. However, wax pots do not get hot enough to kill germs introduced through repetitive dipping of the same applicator. It is possible to reintroduce bacteria from your own skin and anyone else’s, into the wax during use, especially if the same applicator is dipped repeatedly into the wax pot. Skin naturally harbors bacteria like Staphylococcus or Streptococcus, and waxing can create microtears in the skin, providing an entry point for these bacteria, potentially leading to localized infections.
