How can I play with my friend?

Haven’t bought the game yet but I will be this week when I build my PC. And I was wondering if there’s a way me and my friend can play together and extract together etc. only thing I found online was the offline co-op mode. But I want to be able to play the real game with my buddy as we learn together. Is there a way?
