Can't see friends summon signs

I've been trying to play with my friend on elden ring, he's on ps4 im on ps5 and I know that the game is cross gen. We'll be at the same spots and ill put down a sign and he can't summon me or he'll put down a sign and I can't summon him. Even for competitive we can't see eachothers signs. We've tried doing it with and without passwords, tried multiple different areas around the map, nothing. Any help?
