Buff Help

I’ve been playing this game about 300 hours and never messed around with buffing. I’ve seen others do it before boss fights when I summon them but really have no clue what they are doing.

Is there an easy explanation that someone could give me? Like which weapon to use and the what to try after? I’ve beaten the game so many times so I’m just looking for something new to do.
