Need some help

I just got the game to play with my younger brother. Unfortunately with going back to school and a full time job I don’t have a lot of time to play the game. Know I haven’t played a souls style game before but I am aware they are notoriously difficult. Any ways, I keep dying trying to play with him and I feel bad. Is there any builds, tips/tricks that can help me somewhat cheese the game so I’m not such a burden?
