My thoughts on everyone dropping George publicly
Seeing how many ccs and friends are publicly dropping George made me think. Dropping friends in a manner like that is such a chronically online thing to do. Is that really your friend if you drop them over a situation like this? Like to me it just implies, that they weren't all that close.
Yes George hurt someone and should be held accountable, but everyone dropping him publicly to appease the twitter stans is weird and feels performative. If you drop friends whenever they do something wrong, you'll just be friendless eventually and you also take away a lot of motivation from them to strive for personal growth
I feel that Covid deprived many young adults of the opportunity to form close friendships with others in their formative years. They were cooped up alone in their house during a time when they would normally meet others their age and form deeper friendships.
Instead, this whole process was moved to the online world. And you can say what you want, but on average, an online friend is much more replaceable than a truly loyal friendship you have in real life.
I think that's the main reason why it seems reasonable for many of the chronically online teens/young adults to just drop their friends over "smaller issues". Because they just don't have that feeling of loyalty towards their friends that Dream has for George and Sapnap for example.
Combined with the narrow-mindedness and black-and-white thinking of many of these young people, they lack the ability to think discerningly enough to recognize that people are not inherently bad just because they do something bad, and they lack the loyalty to others to overlook their flaws.
This leads to this overly righteous behavior that I would almost call performative. Because they are not willing to re-evaluate their morals or find compromises. It's always all or nothing. It's an overly idealistic perspective on life that cannot function outside the online sphere. But because many young people do most of their socializing online, they don't realize how unrealistic many of their views and perspectives truly are.
I also think that this is one of the main reasons why the Dream Team has become so successful as a group in the first place. Because it's rare to see truly genuine friendships on the internet these days where everything seems replaceable.
