What can I do here?

Just moved. This house was built in 1967. The bathroom has been partially remodeled. What would you do with this storage space? My husband wants to take down the glass shelves…but then what? Who knows. I also have so many questions about the secret compartment. 1. Why are there hardwood floors and base boards down there? 2. What did they store down in there? 3. Can you help me? ❤️😍😍😍 (the last picture is what is on the other side of the shelves)
