Playing Delta Force Warfare actually made me enjoy BF2042
I know it seems like a bold statement but that's really how i feel after playing for 30 hours and getting back to the Battlefield so i've decided to make a list of key problems of the game in my opinion that made me want to get my 70GB of SSD space back.
— Maps are bad
I know many complain that 2042 had a bad maps and honestly i thought that too before i tried DF, most of the maps are unplayable in my opinion except probably Cracked (and only after first sector), the problem is that the most sectors are either overly open or pure meatgrinder pain that you need to run through in order to get to the objective points, very narrow tunnels, rooms, doors, etc. In combine with almost no option to flank the sector makes most of the maps feel like i'm constantly playing B or even C sectors of Exposure map from BF2042 (sectors inside the mountain) or some kind of Redacted iteration.
— Overpowered abilities
Operator abilities made me feel like it's some kind of Apex Legends but in a parallel universe where it tries to be a milsim, so far we have:
- Triple Blaster
- Magnetic bomb
- Smoke screen
- Sonic trap
- Volt arrow
- Wallhack arrow
- Flash drone
Not to mention operators traits and standard frag grenades and smoke grenades, all of this makes it feel like FPS Arena kind of shooter, definitely not like a casual FPS with conquest and breakthrough modes, not even talking about extraction mode but it gets even worse when you combine these abilities and map problems because now you not only in a meat grinder or in the open space fighting gun vs gun but you got magnetic bomb detonate near you with the wallhack arrow flying above your head combined with sonic trap causing black/white screen with shaking effect and all that covered in smoke so it all becomes chaotic and unpredictable, and don't get me wrong, i like some chaos but emphasis on some and not all the time.
— Laser guns and lack of their balance
This part really reminds me of the early days of BF2042 when you could kill someone with M5A3 across the map and just today i did a couple of kills with SMG-45 or M4A1 in a 120+ meters range, not mentioning constant 60-70-80 meters kills with SMG on full auto so there is no balance whatsoever and there is no reason to get any other gun when you can literally beam anyone in almost any visible (but not reasonable) distance without recoil or severe damage/bullet drop
I think these are the top 3 major problems with this game at least for me but i gotta mention that there is a lot of a smaller ones that can be a stopping point for someone else
— Garbage vehicle physics that feels like it's a mobile game from 2012 makes you never touch vehicle menu
— No UI customization at all (no way to change colors, size, opacity of gameplay elements)
— No squad management
— No lobby/party for warfare (maybe it's only my problem but i couldn't find an easy way to get in party with someone from my friends list even tho they were playing at the time)
— Laggy and hard to read Minimap
— No death count in scoreboard (until the very end of the match)
— This is completely personal but for some reason movement feels kinda off, it's really hard to explain in text but it feels clunky in comparison to other FPS titles that i've played
With all that said i'm not trying to say that the game is bad, it has a lot of the good sides such as weapons and attachments system, graphics, animations, lots of great skins (probably the best one's in fps genre if you ask me) and good sound design.
One thought i couldn't get out of my head since alpha tests - taking into account all of the cons i think that this game initially was meant to be Extraction fps only (and from what i heard extraction here is pretty decent) because if you look closely almost everything here doesn't really matter for an extraction mode: maps are completely different there, you don't see abusing overpowered abilities, you don't need vehicles there at all, you don't need an advance movement such as slide or buttery smooth feel to it, you don't need squad management, the only thing left is probably laser guns but i think of all 3 major problems in my opinion this one is the easiest one to fix or just balance.
