Just a few thoughts after getting all the weapons mastered
I by no means claim to be a pro havoc player, but consider myself plenty capable of doing aurics consistently and without too much focus, but after playing with every weapon in the game I just wanted to talk about a few things that surprised me, either in a good or bad way. This is mostly going to be about the weapons I see used less often, so no plasma gun, revolver, or great swords of any kind, this is the unpopular weapons at the forefront.
For ogryn it was almost perfect, having the smallest selection of weapons I got the big man done first, the only weapon that I said to myself, "this is awful, and actively making my contribution lesser," I've seen the discussions of its role as CC focus and heavy control but it just felt.... Bad... The folding shovel, slab shield and pickaxes all performed better in my experience, and more importantly, were actually fun to use. Comparing the power maul to other power weapons it seems incredibly underwhelming for being wielded by an ogryn especially, given the slowdown and awkward swing patterns it lacks any of the expected gusto of a power weapon.
The four psyker staves were interesting, I enjoyed the electrokinetic and inferno a great deal, and warmed up to the voidstrike after a few missions for it's spammability and damage against heaviers, but we're I was really surprised was with the voidblast. I'm not sure if my build had changed or if it was me, but I did not enjoy this weapon at all, it just felt like the voidstrike without the great range and spam that I had been enjoying making use of, I know I am in the minority on this but I remember previously really enjoying the weapon so I'm not sure what happened.
Other class specific weapons of note were the veteran shovels, I had brushed them off as being the first crappy weapon you get and then forget about (unless you have a gas mask fetish) but after picking it up again I had a change of heart, does it compare to the power sword in any way at all? No, but is it fun as hell doming enemies with the folding attack lobotomy style? Absolutely. The shovel was incredibly fun to use and still effective to boot, only complaint is the stagger felt a bit meh, made dealing with rangers a bit tricky. The crusher on zealot was another pleasant surprise, playing with its combos for horde clear and single target was really engaging and fun to play with, even without the dopamine rush of a thinker hammer holy bonk, but the crusher outperformed my expectations in every way the power maul didn't, which annoys me. The helbore lasgun is the last class specific weapon of note, and it just... It felt like it would be really fun if darktide wasn't the game it is, I love the sniper fantasy in games but the helbore just feels like utter crap in hive city shootouts, slow wielding time, clunky firing, and damage that doesn't make up for it, I love the bayonet, and I love the healthy ammo pool, but I would rather use almost any other gun as veteran in every situation.
As for the more universal weapons I'll start with the basics, the infantry lasgun... Dear God emperor of mankind the infantry lasgun... It does nothing well, and it isn't fun to make up for it, after hitting mastery 15 I gave up, and just played zealot so I wouldn't have to use it anymore, up until that point I was just using the fast firing pattern to roleplay using the infinitely better recon lasgun, I don't know what has to change on the weapon but it's just abysmal in its current state, it was the exact opposite of my experience with the shovel going into it. The shredder autopistol was... Actually really good, I thought "there's no way this is good, it can't be, why would you use this instead of a bolter or an infantry autogun?" But, it was incredibly fun running around spray and pray style as a cracked up zealot, the stagger and damage was decent and the stream of crits was incredibly satisfying. The heavy sword was probably the strangest experience I had with any of the weapons, I shifted from "why would anyone use this when there are so many better and more fun alternatives?" But after a few games, (and some blessings) it clicked and I realized that it's actually a very capable and fun weapon in its own right (fucking useless against carapace though) really good for horde clear and elite killing. The vigilant autogun was... Bad... It suffers from helbore disorder to the extreme, clunky, abysmal damage, no ammo economy, and so out of place compared to other weapons, dear God it needs something, carapace pen, a scope, a careful and gently fondling session with an incredibly horny tech priest, I don't know something, it wasn't fun, and it was very bad.
Those are just my thoughts though, I'm more than happy to hear opinions on where you might agree, disagree, anything, just be civil in case I crap talked your favourite weapon, tell me why it's good or how to use it better, I'd be happy to level up my own skills.
Any typos is cause I'm tired as hell and don't care enough to proof read, apologies if there are any unreadable areas.
