Redoing fireplace
Hello, looking for some thoughts/advice redoing my fireplace.
Going to remove existing mantel and tile (photo of black tile, whole mantel) and replace with new tile and a simple beam mantelpiece at the top. Given this change, I have a few questions on aesthetics and what to do.
- Is it best to keep the same tile footprint on the wall, or should I extend out further to match the current full footprint including the mantel? Without any sides I want to make sure it doesn’t look off in terms of size.
- For tile edging, is it better to use something curved or angled, or a flat edge? Or is this just aesthetic preference?
- My initial thought on mantel was to place above the tile where it ends (see second picture). The full wall is about 14’ high to I don’t want to go to the ceiling, but is there a preferred approach? Should I go higher and have the mantelpiece over the tile?
First time doing a fireplace so any insight would be really helpful. Thanks!
