Just started cutting my own hair, any material I need other than a clipper?

Hey, I just cut my own hair yesterday and it went as I expected, not great, especially in the back. Just wanted to know if I needed anything more other than a mirror and clipper.

I also would like some tips for cutting the back and ensuring that the sides are symmetrical. Thanks a lot
