[WIP] Backstitch woes

Hi everyone!! Just looking for some feedback on the backstitching here- I kind of hate it! This is my first project requiring it so I wasn’t quite sure if I was meant to go square by square or if these longer stitches would be fine, but I don’t think the way I did it looks quite right. Any advice is welcome!!
