Sourcing for “Ring Leader”-esque cosplay
I’ve exhausted myself scouring Etsy and spent more time than I’ll ever admit going back and forth with ChatGPT for help with trying to source the basic pieces for a cosplay I’m hoping to do with my partner in early November.
I’m especially stumped with the hats and the jacket-esque layers for both (no idea what those are called). If I could get basic versions of each, I think I could pull off doing the embellishments on my own.
I can’t sew, but my partner can a little. He’s also experienced with dying fabrics. I’d love to get the basics in white so we can dye everything the same color.
I saw the sidebar mentioned dance sites for clothing which is already a huge help for me - I’m sure I could find a basic bodysuit to dye and embellish to come close enough.
That said, I’d take any of your tips for trying to tackle these embellishments or if there are good beginner options that can glue-on. I’ve done this before when we did a gender bend of lilo and Elvis stitch - I had enough fun gluing the embellishments for my Elvis layer that I feel confident I could do this, but welcome advice as it is definitely a few levels up.
I’m not as worried about the male pants and feel like the vest under the jacket won’t be hard to find, but maybe I’m off base on that?
Also not hugely worried about makeup or even the hair. I have a friend that may have a wig I could borrow, but, if not, I’m okay with just keeping my normal long brown hair or just putting some fun color in it.
Finally, what advice do y’all have for shoes? It is going to be a very long day on my mid-thirties feet and I want to prioritize comfort. I don’t feel a strong need to match the outfit shoes here (I will be the female), but I’d like to go with something that still looks “good” or goes well with the outfit.
Anyway, thanks so much for your help in advance!
