Non-diabetic acid ketoacidosis
I'm not diabetic but I get non-diabetic acid ketoacidosis and once that kicks in, it's off to the hospital. So I have to ensure that my ketones are in order. Normal is 0.01-0.02 mine can get as high as 8.4. I must plan accordingly to ensure that my body does NOT decide fuck it and cause the issue. It's never fun, it's vomiting uncontrollably and the body aches are incredibly painful. So as soon as I feel any tiny bit of nausea from not eating, I have to carefully ensure that I get carbs and sugars in and hold them in. But if I miss that window, I'm screwed. During my last hospital admission they theorised that it could be my metabolism attacking my body. And within 14hrs from the onset I had burnt my entire esophagus. I'm dealthy allergic to stemetil and maxalon, but thankfully not ondansetron or other anti emetics. But it can take a while to get the vomiting under control and then a few days in hospital with potassium, magnesium and fluids. It always requires either ICU or CCU for the first 2 days and then I can be moved to a step down ward for the rest of the stay until my body is back under control.
Does anyone else experience this? Considering it has a name, then obviously the answer is yes, but I don't actually know anyone else who has. I'm not diabetic. That's what stumps them and the randomness of it's occurrence.
