ChatGPT saved my saved games

I was getting an error on my xbox one when trying to sign into any account aside from core. When I talked to Xbox support, they told me the only option was to factory reset my Xbox. Even with cloud saves I'd lose saved data on a lot of games I have that don't support it. As a last resort I asked GPT and it gave me a 5 second solution that worked. Wild stuff.

I'm getting the error code 0x80860010 when trying to sign into any account on my xbox 1 aside from the core account. Xbox support said a factory reset was the only option to fix this. Can you think of another? It seems a bit extreme to me. ChatGPT said: That error code (0x80860010) is usually related to profile or system corruption issues. A factory reset is a last resort, but there are a few things you can try before going that route:

  1. Power Cycle Your Xbox Hold the power button on the console for 10 seconds until it fully shuts down. Unplug the power cable for at least 30 seconds. Plug it back in and turn the console on.
  2. Check Xbox Live Status Sometimes, account-related errors occur due to Xbox Live service issues. Check the status here: Xbox Live Status.
  3. Remove and Re-add Your Accounts Remove the problematic accounts: Go to Settings > Account > Remove accounts and delete any accounts that won’t sign in. Restart your console. Re-add the accounts: Go to Settings > Account > Add new and sign in again.
  4. Clear the System Cache Go to Settings > Devices & connections > Blu-ray > Persistent storage. Select Clear persistent storage. Then, restart your Xbox.
  5. Reset Your Console (Keep Games & Apps) Go to Settings > System > Console info > Reset console. Select Reset and keep my games & apps (this keeps your installed games and saves but resets system settings). If none of these work, a full factory reset might be the only option. Let me know if you need further clarification!

You said: Incredible step 4 worked and they didn't even suggest that. Is there a reason you think that may be? ChatGPT said: I'm glad Step 4 worked for you! It’s great that the system cache clearing helped resolve the issue.

As for why Xbox support might not have suggested it, it's possible they took a more generalized approach, assuming the problem was more severe or related to account corruption, which sometimes leads them to recommend a full factory reset. Clearing the system cache is a less commonly suggested step, even though it's often effective for resolving many issues like profile errors, connection problems, or temporary system glitches. It’s a simple fix that doesn’t wipe any data, so it’s worth trying before going for a more drastic option.

Support might also have been focusing on the idea that this could be a deeper, more persistent issue with the console itself. But it’s awesome that this worked out without needing a full reset!
