Dad is looking to switch cars after 14 years. Need your help guys.

Context

My dad bought an Alto K10 around the 2010-2011 time. He was switching from a Maruti 800. He got it at 4-4.5 Lakhs. As of now, the car is fairly worn down, and has required frequent servicing. The infrared system is completely shot, and requires manual unlocking. But that's not the point of this post.

What I want to know...

...is if the Hyundai Grand i20 or Hyundai Exter is a good choice. After 14 years, according to me, there should at least be a change in the features of your vehicles (forgive me if I am too simplistic in having this opinion, I'm not very well-versed with knowledge about cars and the car market).

Going again for a hatchback seems like folly to me, and I think the Hyundai Exter AMT (Petrol) is a good idea. But seeing that the two have the same engines, and that the Exter is not even that much of an SUV (guys at the showroom called it micro SUV(?)), and also owing to the fact that the two have a price difference of only 1 Lakh, which one should my dad go for?

I'm an amateur to cars, but I want to be educated with the reasons as to why one car (Exter and Grand i10) is better than the other. Again, if I forgot to mention, the deal for Grand i20 is 10 Lakh and that for Exter is 11 Lakh. Both of them are Automatic Petrol vehicles.

Are there other alternatives (if any?)

Thank you for your time.
