Why is my 2021 CX-5 Sig getting 12/13 mpg ?

Context:

I just bought a used 2021 CX-5 Signature with 32,838 miles on it last week Thursday. Car is clean, pre purchase inspection came back clean, by all accounts the car is in good working order and was well maintained by the previous owner.

I’ve done mainly city driving with some short highway (like a couple exits worth of highway at a time whenever I do go on the highway) sprinkled in there. After each trip looking at the trip computer above, my mpg is usually hovering around the 13 mpg range, NOWHERE near the 24 mpg EPA estimates, or even the 22-23 mpg that the previous owner said he was getting (with mixed driving).

Bought the car last week Thursday, the tank was filled up by the dealership and it’s only Wednesday of the following week and I may have to fill up again either today or tomorrow. Last night I visibly saw the number of mile range eat through 10 miles of gas on a 2.5 mile stretch of highway

I get that it’s winter time now and I do live in the northeast but again, so did previous owner… And I’m aware that driving habits can impact milage, but to be down to almost half what it should be???…

Otherwise I’ve been loving the vehicle so far, but if anyone can help me figure out why the mileage is so low or if there’s something I’m missing then I would really appreciate it.
