Networking with CFPs

I’m a mortgage lender and I joined this group to learn more about what you guys do since often times we have mutual clients. I learned that we both have sales jobs and have to constantly be prospecting if we want to grow our businesses. So my question is: how often do mortgage lenders reach out to you to in hopes of working together? If nobody reaches out, would cold calling be a turn off or what do you suggest to be the best way to approach you to have a good chance of working together?
