Trying to figure out next steps
I am currently 30yo and an internal wholesaler at a large insurance carrier, have been doing it a little over 4 yrs. I am at a point where i dont know how much longer I can tolerate being at my current firm and the long term goal has always been to transition to an advisor at some point, and am a little stuck on how to proceed.
A little context:
I am currently fully licensed minus the series 65 as my current employer will not let me hold the license. I also have my RICP. CFP is going to be happening soon, but i have a few things in flux right now that i need to sort out before diving into that.
My dad has a practice that he has mentioned bringing me in on, however he has a history of over promising and under delivering on these types of promises. He also has not laid out any kind of clear timeline as to when he would be wanting to bring me in.
I would like to start getting advising experience now, but also want to have the flexibility to leave potentially in a few years to join my dads practice.
Any advice here would be helpful as i just feel handcuffed with potentially joining my dads practice at some unknown time in the future, but the lack of a plan and certainty also makes me want to hedge my options.
