How do I make notes in sst

Im in class 10th and I get so frustrated whenever it comes to making notes in sst. I always try to make notes by myself and from textbook but always ends up copying everything, the whole textbook. In my previous class I never made my own notes, as it was easily available on the internet and as a result now I'm struggling with it. My cousin suggested instead of making notes you should try highlighting the textbook, but I'm not sure if it would work.

So How do I makes notes and avoid copying the textbook?
