Home owners beware!!!!
Well I've complained in the past about how neighbors throwing trashes into someone else's trash bin, the start of porch pirate in my area, and how people kept urinating on the street in public, but today just saw something that's straight crazy bat sh*t and pale in comparison to all that I've complained about in the past.
So beautiful Sunday afternoon, was minding my own business and playing PS5. Then suddenly started hearing this metal banging noise. Looked out the windows then saw this dude with a whole bag of tools prying banging and drilling in front of a house across from me at some mounted stainless steel hand rails. Well he didn't seem like a professional working a project because 1 he couldn't even stand up straight, 2 most of the time he didn't even know what he was doing, and 3 it just seem like he was using brute force instead of unscrewing it like a sane normal person would.
At first I thought okay that house hired a drunk dude to work on their handle rails. It would seem that way because some people came out and went into that building and didn't question this guy at all, until a woman that was about to go into the building started asking him questions. Now I didn't hear the conversation but after that women asked questions she then went back inside. Shortly afterward the owner came. That woman must've called the owner and asked him if he know about what's happening. The owner came, didn't recognize the guy nor had he authorized any work, called the cops.
Cops came and questioned the guy. It turned out the guy was homeless, saw those stainless steel handle rails and wanted to take them and sell them. He's been at it for at least 2 hours before the cops came, took off the rail on both sides and was about to leave. Cops questioned him then let him leave, then told owner there is nothing they could've done other than telling the guy to leave. Now owner is left to deal with the destruction all while the other guy walked free. Poor guy can't even claim insurance because it most likely goes under the deductible threshold.
Home owners beware!!!! It's possible that one day when you wake up or go home your gate, your door, or your whole house front could be gone.
Edit: For all those that are wondering, this happened in Dyker Heights, Sunday, July 28th, 2024, at around 2-4:23PM. Do I have a video of it? Yes I do. The moment I saw this I knew weird sh*t was going on so I started recording, just in the event the owner need evidence. Due to the angle of the video it shows surrounding and house number tag so for privacy reason I'm hesitant with sharing it online.
