Urinetown Matinee Feb 15
So, this is more of a venting post regarding people's behavior. I went to see Urinetown today and before the show began there was the announcement that Jordan Fisher would not be performing and Joshua Grosso would perform instead. There was a loud sigh of disappointment around me. And I thought, "sure, there are people who came to see the show only for Jordan, so it's understandable. To be honest, I was a little disappointed too, but Joshua took away that disappointment with his amazing performance - that guy is going places for sure.
However, during intermission and at the end of the show, I heard some people loudly complaining on how this was not what the signed for, that it was really disrespectful to have paid so much for tickets when Jordan was out, that Joshua was not so great, etc. And there I am thinking on how disrespectful those comments were to Joshua, and how those negative comments could make him feel if he heard them.
People, please be respectful of the actors work. Understudies/Alternates/Standbys/Swings are a vital component of Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. They work hard and pour their hearts into their craft to accomplish their dreams. Everyone has to start somewhere to make their name known.
End of my vent. Thanks.
Edit: It seems there is a debate going on. Yes, people are entitled to their own opinions. However, it does not hurt for those opinions to be respectful. If you don't like a piece of work or an artist's performance that's OK. There is a huge difference in between, " I don't like x because his rifts are inconsistent and pitchy." to "I fckin paid a lot of money to see a nobody."
