Hear me out! I am really excited for Eloise's season and I think it could be the best one yet.
I know so many fans are apprehensive about Eloise's season and how they're going to tell her story especially in relation to Phillip but I don't see how they can do her story any worse than the book did.
But I'm thinking more about the possibilities of exploration with her character in that season and that's what excites me most. Throughout the series, Eloise talked about changing the world and at the end of s3 she realizes she won't be able to change the world if she doesn't see more of it.
S4 will probably have an arc where she finds ways to make change outside of Mayfair and she will want to do more traveling after spending a year in Scotland.
I think getting connected with Phillip will help her as well because he's well traveled and he's an academic. He's probably gonna be a college professor on the show like he wanted to be in the books so he can introduce her to many academics and even help her get some lessons at Cambridge University.
If they do a "marriage of convenience" plot line for Eloise in order to get to experience everything she's ever wanted through Phillip (and potentially fall in love along the way of course) it could still end up being a very empowering season for the feminist Eloise.
I know not many will agree with this but I can totally see her relationship with Phillip working. They're both academics and both yearn to learn and know more? Despite their personality differences, they share a lot more in common in terms of their goals than most think.
Phillip on the show doesn't strike me as a traditionalist (I mean it's the bare minimum but he willingly went to go check on and take care of the twins when he could've easily gone to his greenhouse when he gave Marina and Colin space to talk).
I think he and Eloise will definitely have an unconventional relationship in regency standards but it'll probably resemble a modem day liberal relationship.
Also seeing Eloise, someone so stoic and at times reserved and avoidant because she's inexperienced, accept and embrace romance and love and sex into her life will be very interesting to watch upfold. I can sense a lot of comedic moments from eloise awkwardly navigating her way through sex.
Nobody is saying Phillip should be her endgame but I think it's worth exploring what they can do with the character.
