I need advice

In a couple weeks will be my exs uncles 1 year death anniversary. I really want to reach out saying “hey just wanted to send you my thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Hope you’re doing okay.” Idk what to do. One friend says don’t do it and another friend says do it.
