Does anyone actually watch Bollywood movies anymore?

Serious question. Like, we all agree Bollywood is currently a flaming pile of garbage, right? The whole commercial Indian cinema scene is basically a money laundering front at this point. But real talk : I can’t even remember the last time I willingly watched a new Bollywood movie (to completion at least).

The other day, I rewatched Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and had a moment of realization: if someone made that exact same movie today starring one of the newer nepos like Alia or Jhanvi, Bollywood would be shoving it down our throats as an Oscar-worthy cinematic masterpiece. Like, bro, calm down. You put rich kids in designer lehengas, made them dance in Europe or whatever, and added a sad Ranbir montage - this is not Schindler’s List. I digress it was still a great freakin movie but nothing even comes close to that level of entertainment anymore.

So, does anyone still watch this stuff, or are we all just here for the memes now?

Edit: Just to clarify, I’m not talking about independent cinema. It’s obvious that indie filmmakers are going to be more creative and content driven than commercial films..that’s always been the case. But commercial Bollywood wasn’t always this bad. The last few years have just been a complete downward spiral. Stop asking me to watch indie films because that's not what the scope of this discussion is centered on.
