underdark or mountain passage?

so i’ve finished the game and after reading up on the game afterward im wondering if i may have missed a lot of content. i went through the underdark and continued the game after the grymforge because i assumed you could go through only one. did i miss content by not going through the mountain passage? what extent can you explore it?
