AT Bindings: Salomon MTN Pure vs. ATK Trofeo
Hi everyone! Snowed here in Vermont this evening, Im getting pumped!
I'm really struggling between two bindings for new Voile BC Objective skis (with scales) . The "objective" here is to find lightweight bindings to go along with my very lightweight skis and lightweight (Atomic Backland Carbons) boots for rolling Vermont terrain frequently up and down, just occasionally steep.
From what I can tell the Salomon MTN (aka Atomic Backland) bindings are the easiest AT bindings to get into, I've honestly had trouble entering previous bindings especially when it is very cold and icy in the holes. The a MTNs are apparently are better suited for steeper climbs, than the ATK Trofeo and can adjust more easily if you switch boots down the road, which I tend to do a lot (Im thinking of Scarpa F1 LTs this season as an examnple). OTOH the ATK Trofeo are 1/2 the weight, even though they are both lightweight and thus will help me on the climbs (Im in good shape but I am 68, and have always gotten winded going uphill pretty easily) and 1/2 the price too.
This is kind of a followup to an earlier thread where I mentioned I don't like to get out and back into my bindings when transitioning because I reach so many transition points so frequently, and once locked in the heel I would have to take them off entirely at the bottom to transition. This is important because I often ski with my scales on the Voile BCs especially in spring conditions (I currently have had the Voile BC V6) and NOT skins, so don't really have to get out of the bindings. My previous solution was to stay in the toe, unlocked and set to "ski" when going downhill, even fairly steep stuff in my Dynafit G3 with brakes. BUT between heavier boots (Mindbender at the time) and heavier bindings I was really lugging uphill.
With those factors in mind (age and a very slow climb up, quickly changing gentle rolling terrain, often no skins, just scales, and yes some steeps (it would be intermediate blue if at a ski resort), desire for easy transitions and thus easy entry, etc, etc, do any of you have some comparisons or ideas you can share with me about these two bindings, or other bindings? Thanks in advance..
