I’m making an intentional effort to go back to saying allistic instead of neurotypical
So, I’ve been seeing discussions here and there for the past year or so about the term neurodivergent (there are people who are completely against it as a term and find it ableist, but that’s not what this is really about, but we can certainly discuss that too) and how it includes people with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, Tourette’s, and in an effort to be more intentional with my language I’m trying to say neurotypical less when I actually mean allistic.
For example, saying something like “Neurotypical people understand social cues and neurodivergent people struggle to” when that is very well not applicable to everyone across the neurodivergent spectrum, but would be applicable if allistic/autistic was used instead. What are y’alls thoughts about it?
