Suburb comparison for first home buyers

Hi all, Need your inputs on what to look for when buying my first home. I have started my journey and i’m looking for normal 4 bed , atleast 400m2 land near melbourne. Me and my partner work in the city and have to travel atleast 3 days a week. When i put a filter on real estate for these i can only see houses at the last stations of any train line like officer, cranbourne, clyde, lillydale, mernda, doreen. All of them would be atleast 1 hour train ride to the city. On the other side i am getting options for sunbury, melton, tarneit, truganina. So what are the things i should be looking for deciding among these suburbs? right now my main criteria is travel time to city but i think i might have to compromise on that.
