I'm now in Wales. I'm curious about some friendly observations I made. Could someone answer?

Hey guys, I love your country. I love the UK. It's a great nation and I love the architecture, the countryside, the rolling hills, the sheep farms, the old houses in the outskirts of London, Reading, Bath, etc.

However, there are a few observations I made in the past few days. Please note that these are only observations, not critiques. I'm Canadian (naturalized). I was born in New Jersey and moved to Vancouver, BC, in my early teens. I'm now in my 30s. I consider myself fully Canadian even though I have both passports and am of Indian descent (does NJ and Vancouver make sense now? hehehe).

Here are some nuanced observations I made during my stay in the UK...

Coffee - In the UK, I've noticed that people don't really carry their coffee around when on a walk. Maybe in central London, zone 1, they do - around the business district, maybe, but I haven't seen people walking with a cup of coffee in their hand. I'm guessing because coffee culture is not really a big thing here, people aren't crazy about it - am I right? I'm right now on Main/High Street in Cardiff, Wales and I haven't seen a single person walking with a cup of coffee in their hand. Not one. I'm the only one and I find it so embarrassing (I'm no longer doing this here).

Customer service - you guys do you but I notice that retail workers do not acknowledge their customers, nor do they smile or are happy when they see them. Customer service tends to be lacking. They look angry or have a resting face that appears bitchy. I don't hear phrases like, "Hi there, did you find everything you were looking for?", or, "What can I get you today?" or "Thanks for shopping! Have a great day!" I was shocked to find even the local Starbucks worker ignoring customers lined up at the till and, instead, talking to his employee friend about whatever. In Canada, he'd by trained by management to attend to the customer right away. Are employees not trained to be customer-oriented in the UK?

Buildings - I really like the architecture of the buildings around here. I drove to Cardiff, Wales today. It's so beautiful. Some of the buildings here are probably 300 years old. I've noticed though, that all of the buildings are made of brick - what is the plan in the event of an earthquake? What would you guys do? Do you still support making houses out of bricks? How about lumber?

Thanks,
