What is this? (Nikon F2)

I recently got a Nikon F2/F2S (another thing is I don’t know between these two which it is) and am curious about this lock device above the rewind knob. I have used film cameras before but only one type and I’ve never seen this thing above the knob which seems to be blocking me from doing anything with the knob. Thanks for any help in advance!
