Opinion on gender segregations in social parties

Recently, an incident happened where my husband and I met an Indian couple in a local farmer's market. And the lady is about 5-6 years older or more from me with 2 kids and we just chatted a bit since we are all Indians. And she mentioned "Let's meet up again. The husbands can chat among themselves. You and I can chat among ourselves". After that comment I didn't feel like reaching out to her at all. I don't believe in segregation of genders in get-togethers or social parties and I feel it's very patriarchial to even suggest it.

What do others think about gender segregations in social gatherings? What are your perceptions about those experiences?
