Is Europe less of an economic powerhouse because of WW2?

The American economy is a true powerhouse, by the numbers. Europe had such an economic headstart in terms of time to build industry but the USA’s GDP is 1/3 higher. Why has America outpaced everywhere else so much?

I imagine the world wars probably played a major role; how much weight can be put on those wars? What other factors besides war created such a disparity between Europe and the USA economies?
