Did Christianity start in Ethiopia?

So I just recently learned that the Ethiopian bible was made before Christianity and the King James Bible. This is very confusing to me due to the fact that Christianity was used by Europeans as a colonizing tool. But it origins are from Ethiopia? How did this all start and did the people who created the Bible know the influence it would have?(referring to both the Ethiopian and King James Bible)
