How to make frozen tilapia not taste like dirt?

I bought 2 lbs of tilapia filets frozen in vacuum seal pouches with the idea to make fish tacos. Thawed a couple, blackened them and made tacos and they were “earthy” to say the least. Is this just a trait of what I’m assuming is farm raised tilapia and I should just trash it or should I do something different? Any recipes to negate that flavor would be appreciated.
