Can Propranolol not work, then work?

Has anyone had experience of propranolol not working the first time (not talking away anxiety, causing a dry mouth, cold sweat, etc) but then tried it again and it worked? Or is it the case that if it causes those symptoms the first time, it’s going to be like that every time?
