Switching Systems

Hey all,

I've been thinking about switching systems lately. Currently have a Canon A-1 after upgrading from an AE-1 and want to try the Olympus OM line.

My main reason for switching to Olympus is because the A-1 is a pain to shoot with if you want to shoot manually, without Aperture/Shutter Priority. Also, the camera is basically a paperweight without a battery. With the A-1, I have a 50mm 1.8, 28mm 2.8, and a 199A flash so I would probably sell off the whole lot and try to piece together a similar kit with Olympus.

What attracts me to the Olympus OM line is the ability to shoot manually and the option to shoot fully mechanical without a battery. Also the small and lightweight form factor is something that would encourage me to bring it around more often. Not to mention, many people praise the Zuiko lenses these cameras use. One thing I'm concerned about are the batteries that these cameras use. From what I've seen, they tend to be harder to find and die out quicker. I haven't done a lot of research on this, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

For those that have used both systems, what are your thoughts on either system? For Olympus users, what are your honest thoughts about the system, pros and cons? Canon users, why should I stay with the system? Should I try other bodies (FTb, EF, etc.) that compete with the OM line, given the reasons I gave above?

I'm open to other suggestions or comments as well. Any input on the topic is greatly appreciated, thank you!

EDIT: looking for a camera with a built-in light meter as well. I'm not necessarily looking at the OM-1 alone, just the OM line in general (OM-1, OM-2, etc)
