Wine Aisle at Target
To the young woman arguing with her friend last night in the wine aisle at Target:
If she "just wants to look" at the wine after having withdrawal seizures, save your breath, and save yourself. Her intention is already set. She intends to drink, and you cannot stop her.
But bravo for refusing to participate in the charade, for speaking your piece and walking away. You are the only one you have control over in this situation.
You're not treating her like a 5 year-old child, you're treating her like the addict she is. Her defensiveness borne of shame was plain to see.
Solidarity, sister. I have been there. I wish I had spoken up and then walked away AND KEPT WALKING.
May you find the serenity to accept the things you can't change, the courage to change the things you can, the wisdom to know the difference, and the strength to enforce your boundaries. ❤️
