Unlocked iPad with Airalo eSim breaks group MMS

Hi! I'm a big Airalo fan and have successfully used the eSims while traveling on multiple devices.

However, I have a problem on my unlocked iPad. My iPad is an LTE model but I don't pay for service from my phone carrier — I simply purchase an eSim for the time I will be traveling. It's amazing to have a "pay as you go" travel iPad.

Unfortunately, as soon as I install the eSim, group texts that include Android users in the Messages app begin to break. This manifests in a few distinct ways:

• Initially, the group message is split into two conversations on my iPad... typically my messages and everyone else messages. Despite having contacts set correctly (and having country codes set for all my contacts) the messages don't display the contact name and only show phone number.
• These errant/broken group message threads get syncd back to my other devices via Messages in iCloud and then I have to contend with them on my phone and Mac.
• Typically, I just end up deleting all the broken partial threads (thus losing my message history, which I hate) and then waiting for a new message to arrive to that group. When this happens, everything displays correctly on my iPhone and Mac. My iPad continues to incorrectly display the participants in the group MMS.

Generally, 1-to-1 MMS's seem ok, and iMessages seem ok.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I previously fixed this by doing a full reset of my iPad after traveling and no installing an eSim, but a new trip prompted a new eSim which caused this issue to come back.

I'd love to know if there's a way to fix it!

EDIT: The only other piece of information to share is that I have my "receive iMessages and reply from" settings set to my phone number, Apple ID, and iCloud and .me emails. I have my "start new conversations from" set to just my phone number. These settings are applied exactly the same cross all my devices.
