Why did Tesla recruit guys like Dan Dresden and Alec Wood before any of the other teams leaders from World Race??

From the surprised expression of Vert, you could tell he had no clue. Alec seemed like he was one of his close friends so it seems almost intentional. Idk.. what do you guys think?
