Checking in and out with a Rejsekort personal with commuter card

I have just ordered a rejsekort personal with a commuter period. Am I correct in thinking that if I travel within my commuter zone, I only need to check in and don't need to check out? That seems strange so I just want to double check I'm understanding it correctly! Thanks :)
