Do you guys cap your fps?

I have a 1440p 165hz monitor with FreeSync Premium or whatever and a PC with a 7800x3d and a 6900XT.
Back when I used to have Nvidia cards I used to run RTSS and cap my FPS a little below my monitor's refresh rate eg. 144hz -> 140 cap.
It was generally accepted that RTSS was the best tool for that job and it was advised that one caps their FPS so that the monitor would be within G-Sync-FreeSync range and most importantly, it would stop the card from displaying 500fps in loading screens etc saving you from noise and heat.
Now, I'm running RTSS again with a cap to 160fps.
Is that ok? Does it introduce a significant input lag? Is there a better way?
I know generally the best would be to limit the fps in-game but some games don't have that option.
What gives?
