Being put on meds to confirm my ADHD diagnosis

So I had my assessment this week & I scored highly enough on all of the criteria to confirm an ADHD diagnosis.

However because I had a very traumatic childhood they are wanting to confirm my symptoms are ADHD and aren’t a trauma response (even though when she said this to me she also said she could see how many things predate the trauma)

So I have been prescribed atomoxetine & told I need to be on it for 6 months & if this helps me they’ll confirm the diagnosis but if it doesn’t they’ll look in to things further & see if it is just me being riddled with trauma

I know for a fact I was this way pre trauma & much of my trauma is pretty resolved in me. I hope these meds help and it does almost feel as good as a diagnosis even if I have to wait 6 months for it to be fully official.

Has anyone else been through a process like this? I’d never heard of anything quite like it before like I thought prescribing ADHD meds without the diagnosis being official would be frowned upon

Also if anyone has any personal experience of what to expect with starting this med I’d appreciate it too
