Remington and Minuteman Munitions chronoed
Results up front
5-shot groups out of a 7.5" barrel with an OCL Hydrogen-L suppressor:
Remington UMC 220gr FMJ:
*742* ft/s AVG, 27 ft/s STD
Minuteman Munitions 220gr TMJ:
*899* ft/s AVG, 19 ft/s STD
This was inspired by a conversation with u/Nezbeatbox, but I'll post this so everyone can see it:
We both noticed that compared to other factory subs, Minuteman Munitions 220gr TMJ was loaded noticeably hotter. This makes sense, as on their website Minuteman helpfully lists the velocity as 1030 ft/s from a 9" barrel, and states that it is designed to be subsonic in up to 11" barrels. We're all about short barrels here, but presumably most ammo manufacturers are still doing their load development with 16" test barrels.
Out of curiosity, I decided to throw the last of my Remington UMC 220gr FMJ and some Minuteman Munitions 220gr TMJ over a chrono to see how they compare out of my 7.5" barrel. I knew the Remington would be slower, but I didn't quite realize just how slow it was going to be. Maybe I should've expected this as it's muzzle velocity is rated at 940, but yeah. Definitely helps build the case for making yourself some custom loads to actually hit 1050 out of your barrel.
